The Scientist III – Open Access Instrumentation Support is a laboratory-based role that operates and maintains open access liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) instrumentation and other duties as assigned by the client.
Responsibilities
Experience in high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and hands-on knowledge in LC-MS are required with an interest in expanding knowledge/background in LC-MS method development and optimization, data analysis, and sample preparation techniques
Experience with preparation of mobile phases for LC-MS instruments
Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with at least 3-5 years of experience or a Master’s degree in a relevant field with at least 1-2 years of experience
Required Skills and Experience
Checks instrument performance daily, and performs routine upkeep of open access LC-MS instruments
Responds to end-user repair calls for LC-MS instrumentation and troubleshoots/repairs simple issues such as leaks or clogs
Submits and coordinates repair tickets for more complex issues
Coordinates cryogen orders, and performs weekly liquid nitrogen fills for nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) instruments
Performs daily sample clean up on the open access NMR systems
Cleans electrospray ionization (ESI) process source and runs standards monthly
Assists with preparation of samples and set up of data acquisition for analysis by liquid chromatography (LC), by LC-MS, and Circular Dichroism Spectroscopy (CD)
Documents LC-MS performance and uptime
Assists with purity analysis of investigational compounds by LC
Maintains accurate documentation and records
Effective organizational, multi-tasking, and oral/written communications skills as the environment is fast-paced and results-oriented
Well-developed written and oral communication capabilities
Proficient in written and spoken English, is required
